There’s Someone Inside Your House

Netflix’s upcoming slasher flick ‘There’s Someone Inside Your House’ will hit the streaming service in October. Since the film is adapted from a 2017 novel, (of the same name written by Stephanie Perkins), its plot is fairly accessible. It follows Makani after she moves to Nebraska to live with her grandmother. As high school graduation approaches, a killer emerges with the intent of exposing all of their deepest, darkest secrets. While this sounds similar to Assassination Nation and Tragedy Girls, There’s Someone Inside Your House’s killer dons a mask that resembles their victim’s faces. Makani and her new friends must figure out who the nefarious person is before they’re next.

This genuinely disturbing serial killer thriller was adapted by first-time by director Scott Schirmer from the novel by Todd Rigney.  Protagonist Marty (Gavin Brown) is a bullied, horror movie-obsessed fifth-grader who one day makes a fateful discovery while snooping around big brother Steve’s (Ethan Philbeck) bedroom and notices an unpleasant odor coming from his bowling bag. Turns out it wasn’t an isolated incident, but Steve’s serial-killing spree (most of his victims are African-American women) proceeds to bring the two brothers closer together, especially when forming a united front against their cold, clueless parents (Phyllis Munro and Louie Lawless).
