We are all ready and set to spend quite a bit of time around tables laden with Christmas and New Year’s flavor for our celebrations. There’s no shortage of great excuses to round up friends and family and celebrate together as one. These dates summon up memories of traditional dishes and drinks – or on the contrary, inspire us to make the best of these extraordinary circumstances to revisit our habits. A few suggestions to prepare these feasts, in Ho Chi Minh City.

Start with bubbles to whet your appetite and awaken your taste buds.

An enjoyable bottle of Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte Gold Label Brut Reserve (WAREHOUSE @ 2,300,000VND) – a fine and shimmering bubble, notes of citrus and white fruits. Perfect to come with a dozen of Fines de Cancale n3 oysters, ordered at Gourmet de Paris on or at La Poissonnerie.

For something exceptional – caviar from Kaviari caviar (to order on classicdeli. market/vn). For an unforgettable pair, to be accompanied by a Chablis Grand Cru Les Blanchots, réserve de l’obédience Domain Laroche (Red Apron @ 4,588,000VND) whose mineral notes, nearly salt-like, will perfectly play with the finesse of this black gold.

Moving ahead with products from the sea, don’t miss the Scottish smoked salmon from Classic Deli with a bottle of L’Esprit de Chevalier Blanc (WINECELLAR.Vn @ 1,510,000VND), a fine complex wine containing notes of white fruits and green tea. It carries an overall beautiful tension and is full of energy.

Another great tradition: The foie gras! We recomend Vitu:  enhanced by the juicy and flavorful notes of citrus and quince paste of a Weingut Schloss Vollrads – Riesling – Qualitätswein Trocken Feinherb (VIVA House of Wine @ 1,610,000VND).

Otherwise, to snack on as one waits for the main event, an Iberian cold-cut platter, prepared to order by Gourmet de Paris with a bottle of L’Atelier Crocus od Bootleggers D2 @ 715,000VND), a Cahors to be decanted to let its black fruits, plum, and cherry notes express themselves, as will the firm tannins and its near-black color.

Capon GourmetdeParis

A Christmas dinner could not happen without a Capon (available at GourmetdeParis) or a turkey (French from Classic Deli or American at Mega Market). With homemade stuffing, roasted chestnuts, porcini mushrooms, and the velvety soft tannins, red fruits and spices of a Syrah by Stephane Ogier (ATC Wine Merchant @ 845,000VD).

If poultry does not suit your preference, a New Zealand « French Cut » rack of lamb with a great Australian wine, the 2015 Kilikanoon Oracle Shiraz, which is both complex and powerful – the notes of ripe fruits grant elegance.

Cheeses Les frères marchands

For larger groups, a cheese platter from Les Frères Marchand, a truffled brie de Meaux and a seasonal Mont d’Or with a bottle of Cavanos, by Yves Cuilleron, a supple and fruity wine (Wine Embassy @ 1,590,000VND).

If not with wine, all this should at the very least be accompanied by delicious loaves of bread of all sorts, made by the students at La Boulangerie Française or sourdough bread from Breadventure. Both will be offering Christmas brioche with candied fruits or Panettone, deliciously tasty.

To finish off on a sweet note, be it either food or drink, the excellent Buche at Marou Chocolate comes in Chocolate banana/passion or Chocolate Xmas spice caramel. If you just feel like a touch of chocolate, Chocolat Astair has a series of Christmas chocolate in the shapes of Father Christmas, reindeer, and more, in either black, milk, or white chocolate. D’Art Chocolate has created a festive series with seasonal flavors. With chocolate, try a Porto Quinta das Arcas Palmyra Tawny (www.Vinoteka.vn @ 630,000VND) and take in the notes of cocoa, figs, and dried plums.

For a British Christmas, mince pies to be ordered at Union Jack’s  and eaten with a glass of Canasta Sherry (SAS Distribution @ 550,000VND), its harmonious notes of walnuts, sultanas, and muscovado sugar on full display.

And if you felt like having it all delivered ready to your home, for 2 or 20, Feuro Modern European Cuisine can cook it all for you.

A very savory festive season to you all!
