While the culinary wonders of Vietnam may be obvious to anyone who has spent even a few days eating in any number of Vietnamese regions, the international conceptions of its food can still be limited to a few iconic dishes as the country don’t get the exposure it truly deserves.

Nevertheless, Vietnam was recently voted the second top underrated foodie destination in a global survey of 250 chefs and connoisseurs around the globe by the website Chef’s Pencil. Vietnam trailed only the Philippines and ranked ahead of the likes of Thailand, Portugal, and Mexico. When it comes to discovering the diverse and delicious foods of Vietnam, Chef’s Pencil points out specialties like Bánh xèo, Bánh khọt, and Bún bò Nam bộ.

This is only one example of the finer details of modern day Vietnam attracting international attention; just this year, Saigon’s Binh Thanh neighborhood made the cut for Time Out Magazine’s list of the ‘40 coolest neighborhoods in the world.’ In the next future, let’s hope Vietnamese cuisine will become an effective cultural bridge, connecting Vietnam with international friends, thus creating a strong motivation for tourism development after Covid 19.
