Although superhero movies have dominated Vietnam’s box offices in the past few years, viewers haven’t yet had the chance to bring their super-fandom to a local hero. That’s set to change soon, however.

Movie star and producer Ngô Thanh Vân recently made plans for Vinaman public. In an announcement on Facebook, she said that, though the project is still in its early stages, Vinaman will be a way to, “represent the Vietnamese spirit and heart” as well as provide a new face to inspire young people. “It’s time for our own superhero,” she added.

The film will be made in partnership with Saigon-based production company Studio 68. Ngô Thanh Vân has become a fixture of the big screen in Vietnam and beyond through roles in movies like Da 5 Bloods, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and the 2019 Vietnamese blockbuster Furie (Hai Phượng).
