The Hidden Elephant books & coffee embodies the quintessential Vietnamese bookstore café and pays homage to Saigon’s long-gone literary coffeehouses. Librairie Nam Phong





Since 2002, the Nam Phong bookstore has served as a resource for the French expatriate community, with a catalog of 5,500 books by French or translated authors.

The Reading Cabin





The Reading Cabin is located in a charming alley off Nguyen Thi Minh Khai street, away from the chaotic streets of district 1. This location was originally built as a stationery store, but the owner later added a small library upstairs so that visitors could browse through books in a welcoming environment. They also sell pens, papers, notebooks, and other small items, as well as coffee and soft drinks, so you could get lost there for hours, buying, reading, writing, and everything in between.

Saigon is a fantastic city for feeling content and losing yourself in the moment. With this in mind, you’ll realize how unique this little bookstore and café is when you visit District 1. Not only because it’s an old building, but also because this 60-square-meter library, which opened its doors nearly four years ago, houses around 10,000 books. Music posters, old book covers, and old paintings hang on the stairs leading to the second floor, which is exclusively used for reading, lending a nostalgic touch to this one-of-a-kind cafe.

The outdoor courtyard has a staircase with the titles of literary classics written on each step. Following that, the stairs lead to individual workrooms named after literary heroes.
