A tradition that started in 1951, the Beaujolais Nouveau (new) can be drunk only from the 3rd Thursday of the month of November in its year of harvest. It’s the perfect excuse to gather a few friends around a plate of cold-cuts that goes perfectly with this wine. Its radiant and red colour brings joyful purple touches, a fruity nose, and, of course, the entertainment of trying to guess if it will be either banana or strawberry this year. And one can’t forget, of course, its always-enjoyable, fruity and melting texture.
Being a Primeur wine, its release and circulation are subject to rather constraining rules. As mentioned, this very young wine is not to be enjoyed before the third Thursday of the month of November. It can, however, be sent off, one week earlier, to far-away countries so that everyone can have a first taste on the same day no matter where in the world they may be For this reason, some importers, though very keen on Beaujolais Crus, will not be offering any this year. A selection of Beaujolais, Nouveaux (new) or not, are available in Vietnam. Take a look at this list to start planning for this year’s selection.

Domaine de La Couvette. Bio. AOC Beaujolais
Fruity with notes of plum, touches of cherry, this wine is well-balanced and brings a smooth minerality and nice structure, making it an enjoyable easy-drinking wine.
Château des Jacques. AOC Morgon Côte du Py. 2017
The Morgon Côte du Py cru in Beaujolais gives one of the earthier wines with more depth. This one has great fruit, with notes of blackberries and blackcurrants, a touch of underwoods and beautiful depth. On the mouth, it is rather full-bodied, with notes of earth, berries, spices and even orange peel. Great for pairing with meats such as duck or poultry.
Red Apron Boutique at 1,416,000vnd for bottle (magnum 2015: 3,001,000vnd). 25% off all Beaujolais to celebrate Beaujolais Nouveau period.
Domaine des Rochegres. AOC Moulin-à-Vent. Albert Bichot
This sizable vineyard is situated in the Rochegrès climate, which, as its name suggests, sees the granite bedrock within the vines. This gives the wines a distinctive style, structures with matter, and a large palette of floral notes. It’s a wine with a nose of ripe red fruits, and its characteristic floral notes are followed by spices. Great volume in the mouth, elegant tannins, altogether making a pure, harmonious wine.
