THE MOST DEADLIEST ASIAN DELICACIES

Many of us take pride in trying new foods when we travel in Asia, but some of these delicacies can make us violently ill or even kill us. From Fugu in Japan to Thai Bat soup, here are Asia’s deadliest foods.

 

 

Fugu (Pufferfish)

 

 

Fugu can be eaten fried, raw (Sashimi), boiled, or with miso soup, and it can also be drunk in fugu sake. The Fugu contains a lethal poison known as Tetrodotoxin, which can harm the liver and internal organs. People in Japan like to live dangerously, and the Chef will try to leave just the right amount of poison to cause a tingling sensation on the guest’s tongue without killing him.

 

 

Bullfrog

 

 

Toxic substances in that frog can cause kidney failure. Nothing to see here but the delectable French frog cooked in butter and garlic…

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sannakji

 

Koreans prefer to consume it raw. This octopus is dismembered, served with sesame oil, and served on a plate right away. Even after the octopus dies, the suction caps retain their gripping power, and people can die as a result of choking while eating Sannakji.

 

 

Blood clams

 

 

In Asia, Blood clams are sometimes too quickly boiled and conserve many viruses and bacterias who can cause Hepatitis A and E, Thyphoid and Dysentery.

 

 

 

 

Pangium Edule

 

 

Pangium Edule, which originated in the Indonesian mangroves, can only be eaten after being boiled, soaked in water, or boiled in banana leaves because it contains hydrogen cyanide, which is poisonous to humans.

 

 

 

 

 

Monkey Brains

 

 

 

Monkey brains are eaten raw, cooked, or baked and are mostly found in Asia. Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease can be transmitted by Monkey Brain.

 

 

 

 

Elderberries

 

 

 

Eat only when fully ripe and properly cooked, avoiding the leaves, twigs, and seeds, which contain Cyanide, which can cause severe diarrhea and seizures.

 

 

 

 

Cashew nuts

 

We love cashew nuts, but the raw cashew nuts sold in supermarkets have been steamed to remove a chemical called Urushiol so cashew nuts cannot be eaten raw. Urushiol in high concentrations can be fatal. Vietnam is one of the first countries to produce cashew nuts.

 

 

Rhubarb leaves

 

 

Yes, rhubarb grows in Asia as well. The leaves contain oxalic acid, which can cause breathing difficulties, nausea, diarrhea, eye pain, and burning in the mouth and throat… A 65kg person would need to consume 5kg to reach the lethal dose of 25grams.

 

 

 

Starfruit

 

 

 

If you have bad kidneys, just 100ml of this fruit’s juice can poison you as it contains neurotoxins that affect brain and nerves.

 

 

 

 

 

Cassava

 

 

Manioc can be eaten boiled, fried, steamed, baked, grilled, or mashed, and even drink such as  Piwarry. Cassava contains a high concentration of Linamarin, which converts to cyanide when consumed raw.

 

 

 

 

Tapioca

 

 

For the same reason that the Cassava plant, the Tapioca the root of the Cassava plant must be prepared properly to avoid poisoning.

 

 

 

 

 

Bean sprouts

 

Bean sprouts are one of the worst foods for bacteria like E. Coli, Salmonella, and Listeria, which thrive in the same warm, humid conditions as sprouts.

 

 

 

Koi plat

 

The Koi Plat is a dish from Thailand’s Isaan plateau that consists of raw fish, live red ants, and herbs cooked in lime juice. The Koi plat is thought to cause Cholangiocarcinoma through fluke liver transmission.

 

 

 

Durian

 

When combined with alcohol, eating durian can be dangerous. Indeed, the Durian contains sulfur, which makes it difficult for the liver to break down alcohol when consumed. You must choose between eating durian or drinking!

 

 

 

The Thai bat soup

 

The bat meat used to make these regional delicacies may contain harmful parasites or pathogens. Meat from these creatures, if not properly cooked, can cause severe illness or even death in extreme cases.
