A new Lego Land is scheduled to open in2020 in South Korea on the island of Hajungdo – Chuncheon. After the opening of Legoland New York in 2020, Legoland Korea will be the tenth Legoland Park of the company, followed in the near future by the opening of another entertainment center in Shanghai, China for 2022. The new park, based on the concept of plastic brick play, will be twice as big as the Legoland in Japan and will be built on a 106-hectare site comprised of40 attractions, as well as a hotel, a water park, and an aquarium. The deal with the Gangwon government has been estimated at W 290 billion (S $ 350 million) and is expected to employ 1,600 people. The project, whichwas announced in 2011 butwas interrupted due to various obstacles like archaeological discovery, lack of funds from the company financing the project and changes in the management of the company, just resumed last December. Merlin, owned by Madame Merlin, owner of Madame Tussauds, currently operates eight Legoland theme parks around the world, located in Denmark, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates and the USA.
