This week, the Internations expat networking group released their annual Best Cities For Expats( 2022) survey results. Bravo, Ho Chi Minh City – voted the sixth-best city in the world for expats to live! Of course, we concur that HCMC continues to offer expats a wonderful experience and a high quality of life. This annual expat city ranking ranks 57 cities based on several factors. Primarily, the quality of urban living, getting settled, urban work life and finance and housing. Last year HCMC ranked at number nineteen. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

HCMC continues to be a fast-growing city, responsible for a quarter of Vietnam’s GDP and rich with job opportunities. There are plenty of developing sectors in which you can find employment in Ho Chi Minh City, including everything from Manufacturing, IT, Education, Pharmaceuticals, Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), Furniture, Insurance, Banking, Sales, Design, and the list goes on. Regardless of the sector, securing a job in this remarkable city is achievable with persistence, determination and a clear plan! Here are a few recommendations for securing your dream job in one of the worlds most liveable cities for expatriates! 

 

 

Word of mouth referrals 

Friends, friends of friends and industry connections can all go a long way to securing employment in HCMC. It is one of the most common ways for foreigners to find a job. We recommend checking with your consulate on their regular job fair schedules and networking events calendar. You can connect with the various consulate expat groups easily on Facebook. Through networking and socializing, you can quickly make connections. Most people here are more than happy to support you with linking up with their industry connections.

Foreigners host several Facebook groups dedicated to job openings for expats, especially English teaching roles. Some of the largest groups are:

Various job boards jobs are available in HCMC. They are updated regularly. Some of the most popular websites are:

Vn.Indeed.com – Indeed is the #1 job site in the world and lists thousands of jobs in HCMC 

Vietnamworks.com – One of the largest local online recruitment websites

Jobstreet.vn – A job postings aggregator

Robertwalters.com.vn – Fewer listings in HCMC but excellent for higher paid job roles.

 

 

 

 

 

In-house recruiters

As with most countries, LinkedIn.com is by far the best website to connect with in-house recruiters. Check out the companies you are interested in working for so you can be in direct contact. Many companies appreciate direct communication as it saves them hefty 3rd party recruiter fees. Add the contacts that you have made along the way and send cold job applications.

Most international recruitment firms have a presence in HCMC. Many employers that need to access top talent but can’t locate them on their own, secure the services of recruitment firms. Each recruiter also offers online job boards. Some of the most well known are:
