The exhibition “With a necessary dose of surrealism to go through the spaces between men” at the Saigonese Galerie Quynh offers through Hoang Duong Cam’s paintings and sculptures a complicit dialogue on the interplay of contradictions concerning the multiple nature of “borders”, these intermediate and surreal invisible spaces always changing and into conflicts between history, geography, the division of rationality and subconsciousness.

This is the artist’s sixth solo show with the Galerie Quynh, which, with a career spanning more than two decades, has combined exhibitions and biennials in Asia, North America, and Europe with paintings, sculptures, photographies, videos, and performances. The work of Hoang Duong Cam is conceptual although the objects that live there in his performance are sometimes figurative ones. His works are always in perpetual development, where images of the past, folklore and modern wars are subject to various subjective filters, highlighting the ambiguous relationship between history and reality.
