The renovation and preservation of the Saigonese cultural heritage are in the spotlight in 2019/2020. Indeed the city has decided to allocate 30 million dollars to renovate and save the heritage. The city is also committed to transforming historic sites into tourism sites. In recent years a huge urbanization has led to damage and destruct many historic sites. Representatives of Associations for the Safeguarding of Ho Chi Minh City’s Cultural Heritage and for Tourism Promotion called for a greater involvement in heritage preservation. Currently, according to the statistics of the HCMC’s Monuments Conservation Center, 40 out of 172 sites are used by the tourism industry. Therefore, some representatives believe that it is possible to develop a sustainable tourism development without destroying the heritage.
