At the origin, a poem by Victor Hugo, a prose of Heinrich Heine and a whole era carried away by an artistic current upsetting the sensibilities: the Romanticism. Marking the apotheosis of the romantic ballets, Giselle has not stopped since its creation at the Paris Opera in 1841 to inspire choreographers and dancers. A young peasant with a pure heart, Giselle is seduced by Albrecht, a prince promised to another. The deception that Albrecht inflicts on Giséle drive her to a nervous breakdown which gradually falls into madness. Among the Wilis – those ghosts of « fiancées » who died before their wedding – she will come back to haunt the prince’s nights.
The HBSO Ballet presents at the Ho Chi Minh City’s Opera these 21st & 22nd of September 2018, this jewel of the classical repertory, symbolized by points and white tutus, in a faithful adaptation to the original ballet.
