Exploring art in miniature with the Artist Nguyen Quan Huy

Nguyen Quang Huy likes to surround himself with art and boats, but what he likes most since his childhood is to create his own miniature world and capture it inside a glass bulb.

The Hanoi artist, born in 1966, started creating his miniatures in 2013 when he was in his first year of graphic design study. The creation of one piece takes him several days, ashe must first design the ship on paper and assemble the parts outside and inside the bulb. The job requires a lot of dexterity and precision because a single mistake can ruin an entire project.

Over the years, Huy has created hundreds of miniature ships placed in glass ampoules and he regularly displays them at weekend markets in Hanoi. Each of his work can be sold from 50,000 Vnd (2USD) to several million Dong, and it is not uncommon for him to earn between 5 and 10 million VND at each impromptu exhibition…
