Dom Perignon Champagne no longer available on Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines will stop selling its longstanding vintage 2008 and 2009 Dom Pérignon champagne in first class starting in November 2022. Krug Grande Cuvée and Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs will now be available to all first-class passengers (and Suites).

While this isn’t the worst news in the world, it does represent the loss of what is likely the most well-known brand name from the current Champagne selection in these cabins. Singapore Airlines has traditionally been in a class of its own, providing first-class passengers with the option of both Dom Perignon and Krug. In 2019, it added a third champagne to its first-class menu, the Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs.


Why would Singapore Airlines remove such well-known champagne from its first-class cabin? According to speculation, the airlines discontinued Dom Pérignon primarily due to cost. The airline’s annual wine budget is $30 million. Its Master of Wine Jeannie Cho Lee said, “Their very best is so sought after, that if you don’t go there and secure the relationships you may not get an allocation. In a 2017 interview, Lee also said, “First impressions count. It’s the first impression when you get on board. It’s what you’re offered.” An end of an era…
