Perhaps the thought of whisky conjures up images of your grandfather. However, in Ho Chi Minh City, as in Europe today, the dark spirit’s street cred is growing. Today, cool cocktail bars and whisky specialists are making it a more accessible drink for people of all ages, and if you want to try drams from Scotland, rare whiskies from Japan, top-quality bourbon, or any of the above whipped up into a killer cocktail, HCMC is the place to be.
The location that has piqued our interest today is the CoCo Whiskey Bar. Indeed, if whisky and tartan go hand in hand for you, CoCo Whiskey Bar should be at the top of your list. The CoCo Saigon is a fantastically tartan-strewn celebration of food, jazz, cigars, and, of course whisky, with a design inspired by jazz bars in New York and a huge collection of special whiskeys handpicked from Scotland’s established distilleries.
It is possibly the best place in Saigon to sample some Scotch (apart from actual Scotland, of course). The bar’s most recent list includes over 300 whiskies from the Highlands, Lowlands, and everywhere in between.
Jazz and blues music can also be heard at CoCo Whiskey Bar. There, a McIntosh vinyl record player paired with vintage JBL speakers plays selected tracks, and you can even bring your favorite vinyls to listen while sipping your favorite liquor. Every week from 4 to 7 p.m., a jazz band performs live there, making it for sure your new nightcap destination!
