Since a canal was dug across the peninsula to create a straight and shorter route to connect the river, this 500 hectare-large land has become an isolated island. Belonging to Binh Thanh District, Thanh Da Island is linked with District 1 by a man-made canal. To the north of the island, across the river, is Thu Duc District, while the southern part faces Thao Dien (District 2). Buu Long tourist district, about 6 kilometers from the center of Bien Hoa city in Dong Nai province, has a landscape of mountains, lakes, and pagodas; it is often referred to as “Ha Long Bay in miniature.” The tourist complex covers an area of 84 hectares and includes Long An Lake, an artificial reservoir with an area of approximately 18 hectares. The crystal clear lake is littered with huge rocks that resemble tiny islets. A smaller lake, Long Van, is close by, nestled between the Long An and Binh Dien mountains. When tourists arrive at Buu Long, they can take motorized or pedal swan-shaped boats out on the lake, climb mountains, set up camp in shady gardens, and sample the local cuisine.
Aside from the lake, there are two low mountains where tourists can visit the famous ancient Buu Phong Pagoda hidden behind the century-old Boh tree, the similarly ancient Thien Hau Shrine, or the strange-looking Long Son grotto shaped like a frog jaw with numerous stalactites. Tourists can visit the popular Tan Trieu grapefruit village or stop right at the foot of the mountain to see Buu Long staff engrave stones in the style of sculptures by the end of the 17th century as part of an associated tour after sailing on the lake surface, scaling mountains, and visiting the pagoda.
