What better way is there to get to know a city’s identity than to simply take a stroll and look around? Now, understanding Saigon’s history will become a little bit easier as the city works to implement a program displaying QR codes on street signs.

According to the Vietnam News Agency, Saigon’s Departments of Culture and Transport will update information beginning at select intersections in district 1, featured in both Vietnamese and English, in order to provide more context about the lives behind a street’s name and their underlying importance. Just scan the QR codes located at the bottom of the street sign from two to four meters away and get started.

The city plans to install QR codes on 134 streets by year’s end. Take a walk and see if your favorite street has been added.
