Eat fewer animal products and byproducts
The U.N. says that raising animals for food is “one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global.” Animal agriculture contributes more than half of global greenhouse-gas emissions.
In order to provide enough food for billions of people,the industry has to constantly convert native lands into agricultural lands. Furthermore, factories cost us a large amount of energy from fossil fuel, electricity to water… Specifically, based on Water Footprint Network data, a single steak costs 9,000 liters of water, over 3,600 liters for a glass of milk, over 2,500 liters to produce 500 grams of chicken meat and 1,800 liters to produce one single egg.
