In an ever-changing city like Ho Chi Minh, it should come as no surprise that new and exciting art galleries are constantly emerging, while a few mainstays remain and continue to lead the way. From spaces honoring traditional Vietnamese styles to galleries featuring modern, and experimental installations, here are 10 places (in no particular order) to begin as you take in the art of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Galerie Quynh 




One of Vietnam’s leading spaces for contemporary art, Galerie Quynh is recognized around the world as one of Southeast Asia’s best galleries. Now located in District 1’s Dakao ward, Galerie Quynh is home to innovative installations, from interactive video to painting, sculpture, and drawing.

Vin Gallery




Vin Gallery brings together the local art scene while working to shine light on Southeast Asian art to the rest of the world. A vibrant space in Thao Dien, they feature a rotating cast of exhibitions, from conceptual Art to more traditional paintings.

Craig Thomas Gallery




Craig Thomas Gallery, in Tan Dinh, is a beautiful space to spend an afternoon taking in Vietnamese art.  Hidden off an alley in a small courtyard, the gallery is fueling the Vietnamese domestic art scene, regularly featuring exhibitions of emerging artists. This summer, Ten-acious, the gallery’s tenth anniversary show, runs from 21 June – 21 July, 2019.

The Factory Contemporary Arts Centre 





Venture to Thao Dien in District 2 to find a warehouse of modern art at the Factory  Operating as, “the first purpose-built space for Contemporary Art in Vietnam”, the Factory boasts 500m2 of exhibition space. They also host regular talks, film screenings,  interactive art showcases and workshops.

When it comes to photography in Ho Chi Minh City, Noirfoto  is not to be missed. Run by the photographer and creative Pham Tuan Ngoc, it serves not only as an exhibition space for art and photography, but also as a center of the analog photography community, complete with an in-house professionally-equipped darkroom and studio.

Duc Minh Gallery




A private collection located in a District 3 villa, Duc Minh Gallery  may at first seem secretive, but the space is home to some incredibly important and historic Vietnamese art. The collection has been curated and run by the same family for generations, originally beginning in Hanoi.

MoT+++ is a concept art space in Binh Thanh district from the team at Dia Projects. The gallery host year-long exhibitions, including projects implementing sound and “less traditional working methods”. Each + in the name denotes a characteristic of the gallery: +1 contemporary project, +1 nice place for experimentation, +1 museum by any other name.

Lotus Gallery




A gallery with a history of hosting exhibitions around the world and promoting Vietnamese art internationally, Lotus Gallery has been at the forefront the Saigon scene for almost 30 years. They have an extensive catalog of work from dozens of Vietnamese artists, making it one of the city’s most important art spaces.

Salon Saigon




Salon Saigon  a contemporary art space in a historic location, showcases Vietnamese and french culture through exhibitions, performances, educational programs, and more. Located at the former residence of the US Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge Jr, it’s a true stage of cultural exchange.

Sàn Art




Sàn Art is a leading arts non-profit that also runs a gallery in HCMC with, “a focus on intergenerational dialogues between modern and contemporary art”.
