On the occasion of the 24th Anniversary Gala Concert of HBSO, the HBSO Symphony Orchestra and the Ho Chi Minh City Opera offer to the public a night of prestigious evening with « The Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini ». On the piano for op.43 Nguyen Van Anh, and César Frank Symphony in D Minor under the conductor Tran Vu’ong Thach.

After Rachmaninov left Russia in 1917, he composed only six original plays in the last twenty-five years of his life. The financial problems, exhausting performance program, health problems and homesickness were making the musical composition more and more difficult for him. However, during the summer of 1934, the 61-year-old composer was again inspired to create a masterpiece that would finally match the success of his earlier works: The Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.

In his Rhapsody Rachmaninoff composed his work for a solo piano and orchestra composed of 24 variations. The first concert was given in Baltimore by the Philadelphia Orchestra with Rachmaninoff as soloist and as conductor Leopold Stokowski who will later become the musical director of the Houston Symphony in 1955.
