THAO CAM VIEN – HO CHI MINH’S ZOO

 

 

Established in 1864, by the French Governor Pierre-Paul de la Grandière, Ho Chi Minh City Zoo and Botanical Garden called Thao Cam Vien,  is today one of the best and largest recreational areas in Saigon. The zoo comprehends one section including the animal conservation area, the Botanical garden, and a children amusement area.

 

 

 

 

Today, the zoo is home to more than 500 animals including monkeys, white tigers, hippos, lions, elephants, turtles snakes, etc. and the botanical garden has a vast array of flora and fauna which includes more than 1800 trees and 260 plants species with some dating back over 100 years. 20 different orchid types, 32 species of cactus, 34 species of bonsai and a lake where tropical fish swim come also and complete the scene.
