Life in Shanghai is very exhausting. To escape the skyscapers and trafic, many Shanghai residents goes by high-speed rail to the historic city of Suzhou. 30 minutes away the city is with more than 60 gardens, canals, pagodas to explore, a breath of air after the Shanghai madness.

 

Founded in 514 BC by King Helü (Kingdom of Wu), Suzhou has over 2500 years of history and became around 100 AD one of the largest cities in the world where the intellectual and the elite class use to met. In the past Suzhou has produced some of the most influential philosophers and artists in the history of China and since has been a haven for artists, craftsmen and scholars.

Today the classical gardens in Suzhou are added to the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
