MADE IN CHINA, THE PORCELAIN COSTUMES BY LI XIAOFENG

Li Xiaofeng, also known under the pseudonym of « Sky » or « We Sky »  is a Chinese artist, creating costume by cutting and stitching old pottery together with wire and leather rope. These clothes remind the old Chinese armor used during the Song, Ming, Yuan and Qing dynasties. The porcelain used to create Chinese dresses, jackets and military uniform are found on archeological sites and dates from the Song, Ming, Yuan and Qing dynasties.

“My first piece using ceramic shards was a Mao jacket called “Beijing Memories.” My idea was to bring this era to a new level through art”, said Li. The 39 years old artist comes from an eastern region of Central China and was train to be a muralist but turned to plastic Art and sculpture to explore new concepts. In 2010, he restyled the Lacoste Polo in porcelain and made shoes and dress for Alexander McQueen for the autumn winter 2011. Today, his sculptures are exposed in differents galleries in China, Paris or Dubai.
