If you are a fan of the Animal-theme coffee shop, Tokyo is made for you. In Japan, you can find Animal theme Cafe with cats, rabbits, and birds to rarer ones like snakes or penguins. If you think that’s not still enough, Tokyo’s residents have introduced a brand new theme for animal lovers – a Hedgehog Cafe.
This new Coffee shop called “Harry” (a play on the Japanese word for hedgehog), is located in Tokyo’s entertainments district. For a joyful time with that prickly but adorable hedgehog, you will have to spend 1,000 yen ($9) on weekdays and 1,300 yen on holidays. Although it is not a native species, the hedgehog has been sold as a pet in Japan since a long time. However, because of the bristly hair, many people presume that those cute little creatures are hard to handle. “We wanted to show people the charm of hedgehogs. They give the impression of being hard to handle but they are not. We wanted to get rid of that image by letting people touch them,” said Murata, Harry’s staff who also works in a Cafe with rabbits in the same building.
If you cannot resist to their adorable look, this is your chance to get a hand on them if you go to Tokyo, but be careful with their spikes. “All of these hedgehogs are friendly even though some of them might spike you,” said Anna Cheung, an 11-year-old visitor from Britain. If you are not keen of hedgehogs, there’s also a rabbit’s coffee shop called Ms. Bunny in the same building where you can cuddle Bunnies instead!
