Fraudsters suspected of running online scam persuading victims to send nude photographs and extorted them for cash were arrested this August in Cambodia and Malaysia. The gang used to contact victims, establish a relationship, after a while asks for a nude picture and then used it as blackmail. The arrests come as the Southeast Asian countries crack down on Chinese cyber crime using web technology to target citizens from abroad. Cambodia has reported hundreds of Chinese telephone and internet fraudsters this last year including 74 Chinese accused of running an online extortion racket. Last week another 31 fraud suspects including Taiwanese were arrested. Another 44 people from China and Taiwan were arrested in Thailand last month for running an elaborate phone scam connecting US$3 million (RM12.85 million) from scores of victims, mainly based in China. Last week, according to Jakarta police, a total of another 143 Chinese from cyber crime gangs were deported from Jakarta to be arrested in China.
