The history of music is made of such moments: in July 1998, the first to be more precise, the Buena Vista Social Club orchestra played the song Chan Chan on the stage of Carnegie Hall in New York. At the head of the group, a Panama on his head, a ninety-year-old smiling man, Maximo Francisco Repilado Munoz, better known under the name of Company Segundo appeared for the first time to the American public although he was already well known in Cuba for many years. Then he was propelled on the international scene with Buena Vista Social Club Wim Wenders’s famous documentary. It was quite a challenge for Salvador Repilado Labrada to rise in 2004 just after the death of his father by taking the direction of the Grupo Compay Segundo orchestra. He worked for the last 15 years to make known the work bequeathed by his father and today, the group is the official ambassadors of Cuban music in the world.
Since its beginning, Grupo Compay Segundo had never crossed the Vietnamese soil. This void will be filled on the occasion of the ‘Salsa night fewer’ a special evening organized at the Army Theater by Patrick Desire founder of Poussière de Vie, an NGO association existing in Vietnam for 17 years that offers education to disadvantaged children.
During this evening, the public will be able to immerse himself in the world of Vim Vender’s film Buena Vista Social Club which had revealed to the public the endearing face of Compay Segundo but also to participate, if they wish to, to the gala dinner with the Consul General of Cuba and the auction following the show, .
A show that all aficionados of Cuban sound cannot miss!
