French President François Hollande is due to visit Vietnam this week, arriving on 5th September for an official state visit which will last until 7th September.

Following in the footsteps of François Mitterrand in 1993 and Jacques Chirac in 1997 and subsequently in 2004, Hollande will be the third French President to visit Vietnam on official business.



The visit will allow the two countries to discuss regional and international issues as well as further developing political ties and exploring new opportunities for co-operation. Among the issues up for discussion are national infrastructure, climate change and health and agriculture.

Three government official partners will be present with the French President:

Michel FIR – Minister of Finance and Public Accounts
André VALLINI, – State Secretary for Development and Francophonie
Martine PINVILLE,- Secretary of State for Trade, consumption and social economy.



Arriving in Hanoi the French President will meet the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Tran Dai Quang, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, President of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, and the Secretary General of party Nguyen Phu Trong

Speech at the Hanoi National University

President Hollande will deliver a speech at Hanoi National University on the topic of ‘The common future of France and Vietnam’.



The President will arrive in Ho Chi Minh to meet with the Party Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City, Dinh La Thang and the Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee, Nguyen Thanh Phong.


Meeting with “French Tech Viet” business leaders

On Wednesday 7th September the President will meet with French business leaders in Vietnam. This meeting will be followed by a business forum organised by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry France-Vietnam (CCIFV).

Linkbynet, based in Vietnam, are one such startup who are due to meet with the President. Linkbynet are members of French Tech Viet; they are leading experts in the field of computer technology and pioneers of cloud computing, the company offers customers IT hosting and outsourcing solutions. French Tech Viet’ is a professional body of entrepreneurs, investors, engineers and designers working to develop the growth and international promotion of French startups both within France and abroad.French Tech Viet currently has 800 members including 120 companies as well as auto entrepreneurs active in the field of new technologies including audiovisual, IT Solutions for Banking and Finance, Telecommunications, Software, E-government, video Games, E-commerce, Cyber Security, Training and E-education.

Visit of the CMI, Foundation Alain Carpentier of Ho Chi Minh City

President Hollande will also visit the CMI historic symbol of health co-operation between Vietnam and France. During this visit he is expected to sign a partnership agreement between France and the NGO Expertise SDCI (Supporting Community Development Initiatives); this will symbolise the commitment of France in the Global Fund against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
