EXPLORING KOREA’S ILLEGAL TATTOOING SCENE

In I-D’s latest video series, tattoo artist and activist Grace Neutral explores Korea’s illegal tattooing scene in South Korea. A country where it’s socially acceptable for teenagers to have cosmetic surgery but where it is illegal to be a tattoo artist. You need a doctor’s license to be allowed to be a Tattoo artist there. Also, having a tattoo is considered a serious taboo and is not socially acceptable, but it does not stop thousands of artists from setting up their small studios and shops. In the video, Grace meets the young South Koreans embracing alternative ideas of beauty and discovers the impact Tattoing has on their lives.
