Fans of the 1990s US sitcom Friends will soon be able to relive their memories at a Singaporean remake of the show’s popular café, Central Perk.
The idea to build a real Central Perk in Singapore belongs to Lim Jit Min. Lim, a super fan of Friends, who has memorized all the episodes by watching them about ten times altogether over the years. His love for the show kept growing, and he finally decided to quit his job to follow his dream – Recreate the Central Perk café.
Central Perk will provide an extension to areas that resemble studio sets, which are to include an indoor version of New York Streets, an F.R.I.E.N.D.S. corner featuring characters-themed wall, as well as icon-themed furniture.
This campaign attracts not only the attention of Indiegogo’s backers but also countless of support from other sources. “More than 100 fans have messaged me on Facebook to say that they would love to be a part of this,” Lim shared. Being a huge fan of Friends, the owner of Space Co Group — which facilitates the renting of workspaces — offered Lim the use of a workspace for FREE for as long as he wanted. Another two big supporters of the project are Joey, a 35-year-old director of a shipping industry in Indonesia, and Derek Ong, the owner of Roots Kitchen Bar on Dickson Road, which opened ten months ago.
