The film begins a year after Van Gogh’s death on July 27, 1890, with the arrival at Auvers-sur-Oise, of a young man named Armand Roulin, a fictitious character, a son of a postman who has got a letter for Theo Van Gogh, from his deceased brother, which never reached him. “The soul of this project was the painting of Vincent Van Gogh,  said Dorota Kobiela the Director. Thoroughly embracing an inimitable colorful style, the film flips into extraordinary black-and-white flashback sequences when the Dutch genius’s past invites itself into the narrative. “Loving Vincent” works like a giant painting.  Dialogues were inspired by the reading of more than 800 letters written by Van Gogh to his friends and family, mostly for his brother Theo. His intrigue, mixing pure fiction and historical facts, was dissected by the filmmaker, who focused on the artist’s ultimate moments. Made mainly in Poland and Greece for seven years, the 65,000 full-length drawings,  all hand-painted, have mobilized 125 artists from around the world. One of the many challenges faced by the team was to combine the different styles of the painter to make the narrative more fluid. With this constraint, certain canvases were reimagined at night or during the summer to stick to the story.
